Bay Meadow Cottages is located on the north east tip of beautiful Mount
Desert Island, just moments from the famous town of Bar Harbor. In just a
10-minute drive or a bike ride you can be visiting this popular seaside resort
town that dates back to the late 19th century. This historic fishing village
today is brimming with fantastic restaurants, shops with Maine crafts and gifts,
and scenic tour companies that rent bikes, offer guided sea kayak tours around
Frenchman's Bay. A four masted schooner, the Margaret Todd windjammer also sails
daily out of Bar Harbor.
From Bar Harbor's waterfront you can board a whale watching boat or an authentic
sailing schooner for a day at sea. Bar Harbor is now a well-sought after port of
call for cruise ships and home to the high speed "Cat" Ferry to Nova Scotia -
the fastest car ferry in North America.
Bar Harbor music festivals and art shows are superb events each summer that take
place around the village green. During low tide you can walk (or drive) the
shell covered sand bar out to Bar Island for stunning views of the outlying
islands and a look at the massive summer homes that line the shore. Just be sure
you time your return to Bar Harbor before the tide covers the sandbar.
