"We love coming to Bay Meadow. The cottages are so
comfortable, it's so peaceful here and everyone is so friendly.
Penny is a wonderful host, she just can't do enough for you."
- Mary Smart, Dallas, Texas - Bay Meadow Guest 10 Years

Bay Meadow Cottage is just 5-minutes from Acadia National Park, one of the
most visited National Parks in the US. With over 30,000 acres of mountains,
coastline, and wilderness "“ Acadia is the jewel of Mount Desert Island. Maine's
national park on Mount Desert Island was established in 1916 under President
Woodrow Wilson. Acadia offers over 130 miles of charted hiking trails and over
45 miles of biking on carriage roads over granite bridges built from 1913 to
1940 commissioned by John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
By car or bike you can ride up the 3.5 mile Cadillac Mountain Road, the tallest
mountain on the Eastern coast at 1,530'. The views from Cadillac Mountain (named
for the French explorer who started Cadillac car company after a brief visit to
Acadia) are breathtaking. Locals know Cadillac at sunrise or sunset is the best.
A tour of Acadia must include a scenic drive on the 27-mile Park Loop Road along
ocean cliffs, through forests, past Thunder Hole and Sand Beach "“ the only sandy
beach on Mount Desert Island (where the water warms to a brisk 55-degrees in
summer). Hikers will enjoy the Beehives, one of dozens of area hikes.
Jordan Pond, home to the famous Jordan Pond House where the most delicious
popovers are served at high tea, is another gorgeous spot in the Park. Mount
Desert Island is also home to the only fjord on the East Coast in Somes Sound
which is best enjoyed by yacht.
Mount Desert Island is the 3rd largest island on the eastern seaboard and the
largest in the Gulf of Maine, so take time to explore the scenery, the wildlife
and the natural beauty while you stay at Bay Meadow Cottages.
Our cottages are a short walk to Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratories,
where tours are available.
Mount Desert Island offers more than you can do in week, but remember you can
also come to Bay Meadow Cottages and do nothing at all "“ just enjoy our little
slice of paradise on the quiet bay in Salisbury Cove.
